One of the difficulties of addressing the issue of sectarianism in Scotland is agreeing on a definition.

Two common definitions are –
i) Religious bigotry.
ii) Anti-Irish prejudice or “racism”  
The origins and definitions of the terms “race” and “racism”are also relevant – particularly for consideration of the second.
